North Bay Labor Council Ceasefire Resolution

Jan 25, 2024

We urge the AFL-CIO to issue a public statement to the Biden Administration and Congress...

We, the members of the North Bay Labor Council (NBLC), mourn the loss of life in Israel and Palestine. Recognizing that war hurts workers both at home and abroad, and in the labor tradition of international solidarity, we express our solidarity with all workers and our shared desire for an enduring peace in the region.

We urge the AFL-CIO to issue a public statement to the Biden Administration and Congress, calling for:

1. an immediate and permanent ceasefire by all parties;

2. an immediate safe return of all hostages held by Hamas and Israel;

3. the rapid entry of substantial humanitarian assistance into Gaza, and the restoration of food,

clean water, fuel and electricity; and

4. an end to the supply of offensive weapons by the U.S. to Israel, with relevant funding redirected away from weapons and towards essential jobs and services that promote peace and social justice.

Furthermore, we commit to defend the rights of workers and all people to freedom of speech and to promote dialogue and prevent workplace discrimination and retaliation.

We also urge our Congressional representatives, Jared Huffman, Mike Thompson, Alex Padilla, and Laphonza Butler, to support an immediate and permanent ceasefire and for local North Bay jurisdictions to adopt ceasefire resolutions.
